| LECIP has fulfilled the contract for the Automatic Vehicle
Management System for Singapore's largest bus operator. |
| LECIP Corporation won the tender to construct for Singapore's largest bus operator of a fleet of about 2,700 buses, the Automatic Vehicle Management System (AVMS) in April of 2000. This system uses location data from GPS satellites to pinpoint about twice per minute the location of each bus in operation. Route coordinators view the city's distribution of buses in real time on a comprehensive, on-screen map, and via radio communications, can contact drivers to make impromptu revisions to routing. This reduces or eliminates the variance of bus runs from their schedule, and allows for a finer level of control of operation. |

LECIP developed and produced all on-board equipment and fixed facility equipment. |

Approximately 31 million Singapore dollars, 1.9 billion yen. |

BUS MANAGEMENT SYSTEM OVERVIEW |

Supporting the bus rider |
| |
The AVMS allows for the adjustment of the spacing of buses, eliminating the bunching of buses along the route. |
Supporting the bus driver |
| |
No longer is it necessary for drivers to verify their correct positions by checking a printed schedule. The DDU (driver display unit) displays any deviation from schedule in real time, allowing drivers to maintain the bus' correct rate of advance, without distraction. |
Two-way communications of voice and data |
| |
This system provides a two-way link for voice and data between the bus and the control center. Should any trouble arise on the bus, the driver can alert the control center by voice and summon help immediately. |
Optimized route management |
| |
This system lets the bus control center respond to situations in the most effective way possible: waiting time can be both reduced and evened out by maintaining spacing between buses, shifting arrival times, and when a substantial delay is foreseen, bringing standby buses onto the route.
Data accumulated by the system can be used to perform various analyses, including the creation of and further optimization of schedules route by route.
This state-of-the-art system makes a contribution to comprehensive public transportation information management by interfacing with two other external systems, the BTS (all the equipment that issues bus tickets, and the data gathered from it) and the BusTIS (Bus Traveler Information System, which informs the general public of routes and services).
